About Marc

Marc Short has a deep understanding of the legislative process and is a regular guest on CNN, NBC, and Fox News. He previously served as Chief of Staff to former Vice President Mike Pence beginning in March 2019 and Director of Legislative Affairs for former President Trump from January 2017 to July 2018.

Most recently, Short served as Senior Advisor to Pence’s 2024 presidential campaign and as Chairman of the Board of Advancing American Freedom (AAF). Short was also the first president of Freedom Partners, a nonprofit and 501(c)(6) network of donors associated with Charles and David Koch.

Short began his career working for Lt. Col. Oliver North (R-Va.) in his 1994 campaign for the U.S. Senate before serving as spokesperson and executive director of the Freedom Alliance, a nonprofit organization that promotes policies that strengthen national defense and supports members of the military and veterans. Short then served as the executive director of Young America’s Foundation (YAF), a nonprofit that provides conservative seminars, internships, and educational materials for young people. Short also worked as spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Chief of Staff for Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson before first aiding then-U.S. Rep. Mike Pence in 2008.

Short holds a BA from Washington and Lee University and an MBA from the University of Virginia. He resides in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife Kristen and three children.
